Computer Ethics

Computer ethics is a branch of practical philosophy which deals with how computing professionals should make decisions regarding professional and social conduct. The term "computer ethics" was first coined by Walter Maner[1] in the mid-1970s, but only since the 1990s has it started being integrated into professional development programs in academic settings. The conceptual foundations of computer ethics are investigated by information ethics, a branch of philosophical ethics established by Luciano Floridi. Computer ethics is a very important topic in computer applications.

The Commandments

*Thou shalt not snoop around in other people's files.
Thou shalt not use a computer to steal.
Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness.
Thou shalt not use or copy software for which you have not paid.
Thou shalt not use other people's computer resources without authorization.
Thou shalt not appropriate other people's intellectual output.
Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write.
Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect.

Computer ethics had been established and implemented but I guess the laws were being neglected and ignored by many users. it maybe a good and helpful guide to the users to know the do's and dont's in the computer. But sad to say, only few were practicing it..it is not properly applied.

About Hapag ng Pag-asa painting

The “Hapag ng Pag-asa” was painted by Joey Velasco which was inspired by the 12 poor pitiful children. I am teary-eyed the first time I saw this painting. I don’t know why but it really strikes my heart. The painting let me realize how fortunate I am despite of everything because I still have the things that I want and love. I eat three times a day with enough foods each meal, my mom provides everything that I need and she was able to send me in a good school. This things and effort of my mom was being neglected before. Now I realize that I should be contented of what I have. That instead of protesting to what she’s giving to me, I should make the best out of everything that I have now. For not everyone is blessed and fortunate in this world. Come to think of it…….may it inspires you too…….!!!!!!!!!
Contribution of Internet in the world of Media

Internet has a big Contribution in the world of media. Since that we are living in a unique times, we can easily access to the web if we want to know something about the latest news or anything that we wanna know or seach. internet becomes a book in media for it is consist of different or variety of files with the oldest and latest news, commercial, information and etc. Computer
technology had been so powerful in media in a way that it can give great impact and effect to the masses. Using thse technologies tends others to be exposed in something that quite disgusting. Youth have been exposed in chatting which make the teens experience the so called "Pluralization of life Worlds" when they interact with others through technology. Computer games make the youth especially men becomes individualistic. Individualistic in a sense that it didn't emphasize social interaction with others...and through this computer technology, although it have advantage and disadvantages in many ways. It loses our sense of basic good manners, has lack of elegance in language and adult has increasingly mean or dirty because of too much exposure and maluse of these technologies.
"Mediatization of the Youth"

Nowadays, when we were asked what is “Media” the first things that may come to our mind was broadcasting or news which is correct. But to be specific media is a medium of communication, a way or a channel through which the message was transmitted.
Last November 21, 2008 there was a symposium held in our school with a title “Mediatization of the Youth”. It was discussed by our speaker Rev. Fr. Christian Buenafe, O’Cram.
Media is a perspective, ideology and a lifestyle. It is a way of life, but according to St. John Paul II, media were no longer a way of life now but a culture. A culture in a sense that it gives great impact to us especially to the tweens (8-12 y.o) or even youth. Media creates a culture because it shapes the landscapes of the children’s mind and it even shapes to certain extent the values and behavior of children.
Before we learn from home, school, church, friends and mass media. Now it change, because we learn first from the mass media, then friends, home, school and the last one was the church which is quite shocking and disgusting. It only shows that media nowadays is the strongest man-made force that can “influence people”. And mass media is the is the most powerful catalyst for modernizing youth culture.
But media had great help or contribution on us depends on the user. It has an obvious advantage and disadvantages. All we need to do is to teach others especially the youth to deconstruct media by simply validate some programs.
